Mixed Metals Thanksgiving Tablescape

 photo mixedmetalsthanksgivingtable1_zps6a0b7912.jpg
I'm so excited for Thanksgiving this year, usually we go to a friend's house since we don't have family in town. But this year our family is coming here so we're hosting our very first Thanksgiving! My parent's are traveling as I type this, so excited to have them here.

I love setting a pretty table, so using items I already had on hand and a few new additions I decorated our table for Thanksgiving. I'm really loving all things gold this season, and I think it's perfectly ok to mix your metals.
 photo mixedmetalsthanksgivingtable4_zps0ad7f0f2.jpg
These gold dot glasses are my favorite new addition. When I saw them on the Target shelves I knew they'd be perfect. The pillar candle holders I've had for a long time and they are from Crate & Barrel.
 photo mixedmetalsthanksgivingtable3_zps8d006210.jpg
The table runner is from Target as well and it's a shimmery silver color with some great texture when you touch it. I added some votive holders that I already had as well, they are from World Market a couple years ago.
 photo mixedmetalsthanksgivingtable2_zps8ec7467f.jpg
The place setting was pretty simple, I paired my everyday dinner ware with these gold chargers I found at Wal-Mart for 98 cents each. Topped with a grey napkin from World Market. I painted gold dots on these pumpkins I found on clearance after Halloween. I also used scrapbook paper to make the place cards by layering two different colors on top of each other and adding the initial monogram. So simple but adds so much to the table.
 photo mixedmetalsthanksgivingtable5_zps75eeef46.jpg
I can't wait for our family to gather around this table in a few days. It's such a special time.
 photo mixedmetalsthanksgivingtable6_zps38f6b5d3.jpg
Last but not least this beautiful gold leaf wreath was a Homegoods find a couple days ago.

Do you decorate for Thanksgiving too? Are you loving gold this season as much as I am?

{DIY} Creating a Family Rules Sign

Three years ago when I was pregnant with Ava I read a book called Five Star Families, in this book it talked about creating a family mission statement.  (read the review here. ) I loved this book so much, and what it had to say about creating family dynamics, and growing families. After reading that book I really wanted Orion and I to create our own family mission statement.

What were going to be the standards we held our family to?

What things did we want to teach our kids?

What legacy were we going to leave when people saw our family?

We began brainstorming and writing down all sorts of things. I've kept this small notebook paper with our mission statement on it tucked away just waiting to do something with it. Here's what I came up with.

 photo FamilyRulesSignBanner_zps2b68eca2.jpg

I created my sign in PicMonkey, opened up a collage and made it grey. Then opened it in the editor and  in the basic edits changed the size. This size is an 11x14.  Then from there I just started taking the phrases we wrote down and used different fonts layered on top of each other to create this Subway art effect.

 photo IMG_5482_zpsddfe0b22.jpg

I printed it at Staples using their engineering prints. Total cost $5! I liked the thick white border on the print so I didn't have them trim it down but you could it you wanted to. Then I picked out this frame from Target and popped my print in.

 photo IMG_5483_zps8011b981.jpg

I read an interview once from Sherry at Young House Love, when asked the question "What's one thing every room in your house should have?" she replied, "Something personal."

I loved this, and I couldn't agree more. I really love what these words represent about us and my family. A standard that we can hold ourselves to. I hung it on the wall across from the door, so that you see it when you enter our home. It's perfect there.

10 Tips for Eating Clean

Clean eating is simply about nourishing your body and giving it the fuel it needs.

I've been eating clean for the last few months. When I started this journey 5 months ago I was eating as clean as I could for the first 3 months. I needed to go cold turkey at first to rid my body and clean the junk out of it. Now, I probably eat clean about 90% of the time.

Something a friend told me concerning clean eating was;
"Strive for consistency not perfection."

Now, isn't that a good rule for life in general?! I think so. Clean eating can be hard at first when you start. It's really changing your habits and re training your brain on how you eat. So today, I wanted to share with you 10 Tips that have helped me in my clean eating journey. Because if you're like me you want real, tangible ideas that can help you get started when you don't know where to start. The last thing you want to hear is "eat clean" and then have no one give you an idea of where to start, right? Yes, me too.

  1. Ok, first things first eliminate processed foods. This is huge, processed foods are all kinds of bad for you. Read the labels on things, a good rule of thumb is to aim for things that have 5 or fewer ingredients in them. Anything you can't pronounce you shouldn't be putting into your body.
  2. Drink lots and lots of water! I've talked about this before but drinking water is a key to flushing out your system and keeping things going. Plus it's also very helpful if you're trying to loose weight.
  3. Stay away from processed sugars (white & brown sugar) and white flour.
  4. Stay away from high fructose corn syrup. This is in just about every processed food, again read the labels.
  5. Limit your alcohol intake and eventually eliminate it.
  6. Limit your sugary drinks. When I started this journey I realized very quickly that a lot of my calories were coming from what I was drinking. Lots and lots of sugar in my tea, coffee, and soda! Limit this stuff in your diet and eventually eliminate it. Eventually you will re train your body and mind and can have the occasional soda or latte.
  7. Eat lots and lots of veggies. Green veggies are best (spinach, kale).
  8. Prep your food ahead of time. Meal planning is really a big key to helping you eat clean. I plan out all my families meals for two weeks, this helps me stay on track. After going grocery shopping chop up all your fruits and veggies in advance for the week to help you have something that already prepared and ready to go. This will help you reach for healthier options when you're hungry.
  9. Eat live foods, eat lean proteins and healthy fats (coconut oil, avocados, fish, EVOO)
  10. Surround yourself with encouraging and positive people that will help you on this journey.

My Day with Lenea Sadler Makeup.

We recently had our annual family photos taken, as a professional photographer myself I really believe in the value of capturing your family once a year in photographs. I also look forward to working with other photographers and professionals as a client myself. It give me a chance to be on the other side of the lens, and see what my clients go through, and pamper my family a bit too.

My husband actually looks forward to our family shoots every year as well, which makes the experience a lot of fun too!

I was able to spend an afternoon getting my makeup professionally done. I haven't done this since my wedding day, so it was a treat to sit in the comfort of my own home and get pampered like this.

Lenea was so great to work with, she involved me in the whole process asking me what my needs were, what colors I wanted to use and she answered my endless amount of questions about the makeup she used on my face.

She also offered suggestions, and told me about makeup techniques. She did so great with my curious three year old, who also was fascinated by the makeup too!

 photo mydaywithleneamakeup3_zps7b80c772.jpg
She came up with some awesome gold eyes, that enhanced my blue eyes which I loved. We tried a cat eye as well, which I'd be dying to try and can never seem to do on my own.

I loved having my makeup done, it added a little something extra to my look for family photos. Interested in having your makeup done professionally for your next big event or family shoot? Connect with Lenea, vist her links below.

Beauty Steals: Color Correctors

Let's talk color correctors, I have very uneven skin tone and redness. Using a color corrector has helped me a lot with skin issues. I've used both these products on my skin to help with this issue and I've really liked both of them and what they did for my skin. However, I love the price tag of the Almay brand over Stila.

Beauty Steals: Color Corrector

So if you're on the hunt for a good color corrector that won't break your bank, Almay's your pick! What beauty steals have you been surprised by lately?! Tell me in the comments below your faves.

Then you'll have to decide what to do with them! I decided to whip up a little DIY project to display mine. Follow along below for more on that.

 photo printicproject1_zps6cb7f237.jpg

JoAnn Fabrics has these awesome open back white frames in many different sizes and shapes. I scooped this one up when it was 60% off making it $12. I bought a can of spray paint to match my children's bath decor.

 photo printicproject2_zps402cb8ea.jpg

Couple coats of paint. Wait for it to dry. After it was all done drying I took some left over twine and stapled it to the back of the frame. I did two rows with my twine.

 photo printicproject4_zps0632be07.jpg
Next it was time to hang my frame up! I've been slowly decorating my children's bathroom so I decided to hang it there. I choose prints that had both kids in them since this is "their" bathroom.
 photo printicproject5_zps689737c9.jpg
Aren't they so sweet? I love personal touches like this in my home. I love how this project turned out and can't wait to order more. Getting the prints off my phone and into my hands is so fun!

Drug Store Beauty Finds I'm Loving

I've been a long time fan of the drug store make up brands! I use only a few department store types of make up and the rest is MARK brand make up. Recently I've found a lot of drug store finds that I've been loving, and some I've been using for a while. I thought I'd share those with you today.

Drug Store Beauty Finds I'm Loving

1. L'OREAL Colour Riche eye shadows- I was given two of these from a party I hosted. I really loved the shades that I got and I love the pigment in these.

2. Wet N' Wild Eye Trio- I have this in Silent Treatment after hearing Emily talk about it in Beauty Broadcast. This gives a great smokey eye and I like these colors.

3. Almay Smart Shade Perfect Color Corrector- I've been using this one for a while. I have really uneven skin, lots of redness undertones as well. This helps color correct a lot of those issues. I've been using it for about a year and I really like it.

4. Maybelline BB Cream- I know there's a lot of opinions about BB cream, but I've been using this for much of the summer instead of foundation. I love how light it is, and with powder it gives me enough coverage that I need.

5. Revlon Lip Butters- These are some of my faves! Seriously, I discovered them a while back and I have 4 colors always on rotation. They are smooth like lip gloss, matte like lipstick, and give you lots of shine.

6. Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara- I picked this up and have had it for a while now. I like what it does for my lashes.

7. E.L.F Countouring Blush & Bronzer- I picked this up after hearing about it on Beauty Broadcast. I'm really loving the color of the blush in this duo.

What are some of your drugs store finds? What are you loving? Tell me in the comments below.

Restaurant Style Spinach Artichoke Dip

I love spinach artichoke dip! It's one of my fave things to eat at gatherings, tailgates and other parties! It's also my "go to" thing to make when I'm throwing my own parties. So simple and delish! I was on the quest to make the perfect dip that tasted just like the restaurants do, and I think I came up with my own awesome version.

This is a very cheesy version, like calorie over load! I love it, in moderation of coarse. I love it best served hot out of the oven and with tortilla chips.

Here's what you'll need:

1 cup Parmesan Cheese
2 cups Mozzarella Cheese divided
1 jar Alfredo sauce
1 block of cream cheese softened
1 1/2 cups spinach - I use the frozen kind, make sure you drain the excess moisture from it
1 can whole artichoke hearts drained & chopped

Here's what you'll do:

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.

I like to used my Kitchen Aid mixer to mix everything together, it's just easier and faster but you could do this by hand as well. In your mixers place the softened cream cheese into the bowl and mix till creamy, then dump in your Alfredo sauce, 1 cup Parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese. Then you'll add in your drained spinach and chopped artichokes and mix again till it's all blended nicely.

Place in a 9x9 baking dish. Add the 1 cup of mozzarella cheese that's left on top of your dip.

Place in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly, with light browning.

Serve with tortilla chips, crackers or bread.

I know this will be a hit at your next party, it's always a crowd pleaser at my house!

Beauty Steals: Pore Minimizers

I love trying out new beauty products. There's lots of debate about high end vs. drug store beauty finds. I myself love trying new things, but know that the higher price tag is worth it sometimes and sometimes you can find things that work just as well for a lower price point.

I'm not a beauty expert, but I love sharing what I've found with others and things that are working for me. Beauty Steals is just that! Products I've tried and used and found more affordable versions that do the same thing.

Today we're talking about pore minimizers! I have rather large pores, and a really uneven skin tone in general. I tried Benefits Porefessional a little over a year ago. I love the smooth finish it gave to my skin. As well as filled in my pores. But with a $30 price tag it can be a bit pricey.

Beauty Steals: Pore Minimizers

Enter L'OREAL's Miracle Blur! I was given a full size sample of this in a party pack about 6 months ago and I've been using it ever since almost daily. It does a little more than smooth out pores it also smoothes fine lines & wrinkles. I don't have a lot of the wrinkle issue but I love how it smoothes my skin just like the higher end product with out the price tag.

If you're looking for a similar product to do the same try out Miracle Blur!

What beauty products have you been impressed by lately? Tell me in the comments below.

A Small but Big Dream.

It's Friday. Oh Friday how I welcome thee. The weekend ahead, with nothing on the agenda except celebrating my sweet hubby's birthday.

Ava and I will bake him a pie, at his request for his birthday.

We'll do our best to be lazy but that may not happen because I've got to many projects on want to complete.

When Orion and I got married we lived out of state from family. We lived 4 hours away from my family. During this time it was nice to be only  a few hours away and be able to make it home for parties, vacations and holidays.

When we moved to Arizona it was a time in our lives where a lot of things were changing that were out of our control. We needed a fresh start, I was newly pregnant and we looked forward to starting a family in this new adventure.

Once Ava was born everything changed for me. I began to miss my family even more, and longed to be closer to them. I wanted them to see Ava grow up, I wanted them to be apart of our family moments.

If we were having coffee today I would tell you that for the last couple of years that has been my dream. A small dream. But yet a dream that seemed way to big to ever even happen.

Orion and I last last few years have attempted many times to move out of Arizona. It's true. We've applied for jobs, sent resumes, had phone interviews all that led nowhere. Doors closed left and right, and it became clear that God had us here.

So we started looking for a house, and decided that this is where we would be for a while. Orion got a raise at his job which we were so very thankful for, I was able to stay at home with my kids. And I quietly tucked this dream of living near family away in my heart.

All while silently at night saying prayers to God about it. We've had sort of a "if we build it they will come" mentality. Thinking maybe just maybe the longer we live here, some of our family will move here someday. Someday.
 photo IMG_8773_zps1d72d6c8.jpg
Can I tell you something? Something so amazing, I could just cry right now as I type this! These are my Grandparents, aren't they cute?!! Yes, yes they are.

I know not everyone is close to their grandparents, but I am extremely close to them. They have been such an important part of my life. They taught me about the Lord, my Grandmother taught me about prayer. She taught me how to sew so many years ago. My grandfather is funny, I get my quick whit from him. And I'll never forget the day he walked me down aisle on my wedding day.
 photo IMG_8775_zpsdfa69d36.jpg
My small but very big dream is coming true this weekend.

A dream that seemed so, so big God has had his hand in all the while.

They are moving here.

I almost didn't want to talk about it for fear that it just might not be true. I didn't want to rub it in to my other family, but I'm also just so excited I could burst.

And not only are they moving here, but they are moving right across the street from me and my family.
 photo IMG_8785_zps7688960b.jpg
The Lord has long since known my desires and he has answered this prayer that I've had on my heart for so long. I am so thankful.

I can not wait to have them close. I look forward to having them around for everyday life, holidays and everything else.

If we were having coffee today I would tell you that even though something may seem oh so small to you, it may not be small to God. And those prayers that you think are to small to pray God wants to hear them. He wants to answer them. So go ahead, let him.
