Yay oh yay! It's the beginning of December, the countdown to Christmas is officially on in our house! Have you put up your tree yet?! I love this time of year and I love making everything so special, we're adding some new family traditions this year, I can't wait to tell you about them.

Today, I'm sharing some Festive Christmas jammies! I love getting a new pair of jammies for my kids to wear on Christmas why not find some for yourself as well! Last year I got a new pair with matching slippers, this year here's some of my new favorites!

I've got my eye on these red polka dot ones from Old Navy!

How cute is that Bah Hum Bug sweatshirt? Perfect for cold Christmas days. Also those red & blue tanks are from Old Navy and for under $9 they are a steal with cute saying's like "sleepy head" and "need coffee." So fun! Check out my other favorites from this collection by clicking on the images.

What about you, do you buy festive jammies for your kids and yourself too? I've been trying to talk the Hubby into matching family jammies for years, but he's just not going for it!

Spring Shoes Styles with Payless

I got a coupon from Payless a couple weeks ago, and while I usually don't go there often I've found a few pairs of shoes over the years from there that I've liked. I also like some of their kids sandals and shoes.

Back to my coupon, it made me want to check out online some of what they had. I was happily surprised at how much I found that I liked. So, I rounded up some of my fave Spring styles from Payless.

From flats to wedges they have a little bit of everything.

Which ones are your faves? Got any secret shopping places too?

I was not paid at all to say this, nor am I affliated at all with Payless just love these styles.

What Reading Fashion Blogs Has Taught Me

I don't consider myself fashionable my any means. I consider my style classic, basic and simple. Not that that is bad by any means. But, then I see magazines and fashion blogs and I love what the ladies are wearing but never think that I can pull that off too.

You know what I mean? I've started reading a few fashion blogs written my real women. Women who are not models, have real budgets, and who make fashion a little easier to understand.

So here's what I've learned from some of my favorite fashion blogs:

1. Take risks. Don't make yourself feel uncomfortable with what you're wearing but try different things that you wouldn't normally and see if it works for you. There's so many times I'll see something I love, but just automatically think it won't work on me and so I don't even try it one. Case in point; maxi skirts. I'm short, 5'2'' to be exact and the idea of maxi skirt always intimidated be because of my height. Turns out I really love them, and I'm not to short to wear them.

2. Layers. Layering shirts under jackets. Or adding a scarf can really make an outfit. Give it a try.

3. Accessorize. Now, this might go with out saying but I'm the type of girl I love accessories but I'm also the type of girl who matches every accessory. Looking and reading fashion blogs has taught me that your earrings don't need to match everything, and you don't have to buy the matching set. Have fun trying things together that you wouldn't normally try, you'll be surprised. Belts, Scarves, Jewelry they are all your friend. Accessories help make the outfit more interesting.

4. You don't have to buy the whole outfit at one store. I'm so guilty of this, probably because it's just easier than going to a bunch of stores to just buy the whole outfit at the one store. But really what's the fun and interest in that? There isn't when you're head to toe in Old Navy. Mix prints, go to different stores to really make the outfit pop and interesting.

Some of my fave fashion blogs written by real women:

I hope in the next few weeks to take a risk and show you some of my fashion lessons that I've learned here on the blog. I'm going to get up the courage and take a pic of myself and show you how I'm putting these into practice!

Stay tuned! What are some of your fashion tips or advice? What have you learned about fashion this year? Tell me in the comments below.

{Closet Series} Building a Wardrobe

If you have a closet, then you probably have clothes to fill it up right? Lately, I've been feeling really challenged to buy only things I love.

Kinda, sounds simple right? But, if you're anything like me you might like to shop. You might like a lot of different things, and tend to buy them all if you can afford it. Or if it's on clearance.

Here's the trap I've fallen into many times;

It's cute, check!

It's on clearance, check!

So I buy it.

Then I take it home, and it sits in my closet and I begin to rotate it through all the other clothing that I have that can't be worn together or re mixed because it's a certain type of shirt that only goes with these type of pants, yada yada!

Do you have this same problem? Well, that's why I've been feeling really challenged lately to not just buy stuff because it's cute, it fits or it's on sale and I "like" it. Here's the truth, I have a lot of clothing. It's true you saw it.

Here's the other truth, I don't wear half of it. As I was cleaning out my closet a couple days ago pulling out things I no longer wear, or haven't in a year and deciding that it needed to go I decided I am going to pair down, and really only buy things that 1. I love and 2. go with other things, therefore expanding the wardrobe I have.

I'm not an expert on this, but I am learning a lot. I found this, and I've been slowly making a list of things to keep, and others to be on the look out for as I shop.

You know someone who does have this figured out and she's fabulous at it? Cori from La Vie Petite. I've been reading her series called Dressing on A Dime, and it's awesome! She shares some amazing tips on how to build your wardrobe, go here to read up! You won't be sorry. You'll be hearing from her later this month too, so get excited!

Where are my fave places to shop? Here's the thing, I always shop the clearence rack where ever I go. I never pay full price. If there's something I want that's way out of my budget usually I'll just wait till it goes on sale. I use copoun codes, and online promotions to score great deals.

I like to shop at a lot of different places, here's some of my faves:

Marshalls
T.J Max
Nordstrom Rack- awesome for shoes!
Target- great for basics. I love their shoes too, and for casual tops
DownEast Basics- hands down most modest store, that's cute! I also am loving their camis
The Limited- great for classic work wear pieces
Stein Mart
Old Navy

And just because I thought this video was really creative, here's a look at 100 years of fashion and how its evolved:

Today I was invited to attend The Limited Grand Opening of the Glendale Arrowhead Towne Center store. It's fun as a blogger to get invited to these events, and this particular event had a really great message and promotion they are doing for the From the Heart Foundation here in Glendale.

From the Heart is an organization that helps women and children from domestic abuse situations. It gives them shelter, and a place they can go to learn job skills, a place where they can get back on their feet and a safe haven.

During this weekend {9/30/11 till 10.02.11} everything in the store is an additional 40% off. From the Heart" provides funds to west valley social services including women's shelters like New Life Center. Past recipient, New Life Center among the many agencies From the Heart has given to through the year. It's an amazing cause, a great reason to shop and help others.

If you live locally in Glendale or the Valley area Organizers are requesting women of the Valley to consider donating a "gently loved" outfit to New Life's Center thrift store as part of their work program initiative and larger donations can be picked up by New Life. Or, if you go shopping at The Limited this weekend, know that partial proceeds go to a great cause.

{L: Mayor of Glendale Elaine Scruggs & R: CEO of The Limited Linda Heasley}

During the Grand Opening event we had the chance to hear from several people in attendance today. One of which was the CEO of The Limited, Linda Heasley. One of the things that stuck out in my mind was when she said that The Limited shows its support for all types of women doing all types of work.

As a working Mother, and before that a stay at home Mom I know the value in feeling like people recognize no matter what you're doing that your work matters. Their goal is to help women gain confidence about themselves by helping their outer appearance through their clothing. Giving them the confidence in life to accomplish their dreams. Now, that's something I can get behind and encourage!

I picked up a few great items, that I can't wait to wear. They have a wide range of clothing items, anything from casual work attire, dresses, and tons of accessories. Their pieces are classic and I think very timeless. Ones that you can really build a wardrobe with.

{DIY} Fun Ribbon Flip Flops

This is a fun little project I whipped up for my friend's daughters birthday. I wanted to make something fun to giver her on her birthday, something girly and something cute. I've seen a lot of flip flops in the stores adorned with jewels, ribbons, and lots of other fun things I decided that I would dress up a pair of my own.

Perfect! And made with love, what could be better?!!

This is a really simple project, you can do this for adults too not just kid size flip flops. This is only a method you can use any supplies you want. Here's what I used:

Photobucket

{Here's what you need}
- flip flips any size
- ribbon
- rhinestones, jewels, buttons or something to decorate then with
- hot glue

{Here's what you do}
- cut your ribbon into 3 inch strips. I cut my ends on an angle to make them look a little more finished.
- decide on a pattern you want to do with your ribbon. I did 5 in a row alternating each color.
- tie them in a simple knot, and add a dab {small amount} of hot glue underneath and secure the ribbon. Keep doing this in your pattern till you're done.
- then adorn with your rhinestones or decorations

Then sit back and admire what you've just done, and how the little girl will feel that wears them! So cute!

Here's what they look like when you're all done

Fashion Finds at {Wal-Mart}

Sunday night I had to go to Wal-Mart to buy a new trash can [i hate spending money on things like trash cans] while I was there with no baby or hubby I suddenly lost myself in running around and looking at lots of random things that Wal-Mart had to offer that night. I found a pair of cheap-o leggings a couple weeks back for $5 and decided again to check out the clothing, to see if there were any diamonds in the rough that I missed, to my surprise I found a few things I actually like, and they are pretty cute and affordable to. Here's my finds:

Now, while although I find Miley Cyrus completely annoying [don't tell my niece] I did find some pieces in her fashion line.
this cute little guy was $14

this little number might be fun for a date with hubby at $7

Then I ventured over and found these little gems in the slipper dept. aren't they cute?
And for $10 I think I'd love to have them on Christmas morning.

then I found this cute shirt, and it reminded me of the one Mrs. B was wearing on Thanksgiving.

What do you think? Have I converted some of you? Have I inspired you the next time you're at Wal-Mart or another store you don't usually shop at to check out what they might have to offer, to see if you can score some unexpected great deals!?!

{DIY} Flower Headband

I saw this great tutorial this week on a blog I was reading. I decided to take the same method and do a little tweaking and make this myself. This is a really easy project however very time consuming. But, I knocked it out during one of Ava's nap times and I'm really happy with the way they turned out. I'm planning on making a bunch to put up in my Etsy shop: Ava's Closet.

Here's what you'll need for this project:
- 1/2 yd. of fabric in two colors or ones that coordinate well together
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- two different size circles (for tracing a pattern)
- 1 headband
- jewels, buttons, or anything you want to go in the center of your flower

Ok, now that you've got your supplies let's get crafting:

Isn't she pretty??!!!?

I'm going to call her Madison. She and her friends will be for sale in Ava's Closet very soon!
